Border terriers

where work comes first

'Essentially a working terrier', that is the part of the breed standard to keep in mind when breeding Border Terriers there's a saying in the dog world 'form follows function' in essence what this is saying is if we DO keep in mind the purpose of the breed then we won't stray very far from what the breed is supposed to look like, it's job of work will define it's look.

Although as a small hobby kennel I do show at KC events, I also try my hand (and win) at Hunt Terriers shows, Game Fairs and Terrier Racing which is great fun, my dogs are worked at legal levels, rats, rabbits, grey squirrel and are expert mole diggers.

A Border Terrier can be a lap dog, sleeping on your bed at night but never forget, this is a dog bred to cover rough terrain following the hounds, dig for prey and kill at the end of the hunt, they are a game little dog with a big heart, Border Terriers need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation if you don't like these aspects of the breed perhaps a stuffed toy or a king charles spaniel would be more suited to your household. Because of these characteristics they make good all round family pets, happy to be doing what you are doing. Some of the activities that our pups enjoy in their new homes and with us are, boating, swimming, showing, agility, flyball, hiking, marathon running (with pet human) racing, hunting, working to the gun (retrieve) acting being a photographic model, being a PAT dog and of course being a pet.

I do NOT recommend this breed for anyone inactive or elderly... Border Terriers are only part time couch potatoes
