Coronation St 'Eccles'
The part of Eccles in Coronation St is played by Tess, Phi and Maeve, they are handled and trained at Granada studios and on location by myself and Schmeicels owner Ann Lunt of Louarne Great Danes. The long awaited scenes were finally shown on 26th Jan 09. It was a Border Terrier Bonanaza with all three 'Eccles' being shown on the one night, friends and family who know the dogs managed to spot which dogs appeared where but for the uninitiated, when Ken Barlow first apppears walking along the canal towpath, the dog in the shot is Tess, then when 'Eccles' starts to pull on the lead to the ducks it's Phi's turn she's in the water and then in shot until Ken gets on the boat, next up it's Maeve's turn, in Martha's boat Maeve get a toweling down by Stephanie Beacham, then when Ken returns sheepishly home it's Tess again getting a fuss. FYI Phi is never in the canal, she's in a mock up in studio, they even heated the water!!! All the training for the potentially risky stuff was done by myself with Anne's help and under my professional supervision with the dogs safety in mind at all times. If it's an easy shoot then Anne takes them to to studio as a handler. Many thanks to Anne for thinking of us when she was asked by Granada to find a new 'Eccles' for the part.
